The Kerem Tunnel allows for a an experience that is unique in terms of hiking and riding.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, is opened as part an extensive cycle path that is a loop around the capital.

The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point is located within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. While the northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem about half one kilometer away from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated at a formal ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov as well as hundreds of cyclists.

"The opening of this tunnel is another part in the development Jerusalem. The tunnel transforms Jerusalem into an attractive destination for tourists of any kind of crowd in Israel as well as around the world."

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the development of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of new activities and ventures that connect the rich history of our capital city's eternal past to its future...  נווה פריצקי I encourage you to take your bicycles on a scenic and well-maintained road that overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is an essential tool to realize the vision to change the concept of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin emphasized. "The new tunnel will be connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will be connected to the many cycling routes that exist in the city.  נווה פריצקי The paths will be paved in its numerous neighborhoods. The aim is to promote cycling among residents of Jerusalem.



The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewer from Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility.  נווה פריצקי This plant is west of Sorek and is used today as an infrastructure tunnel.

The work currently in progress includes road construction, the installation of blowers as well as modern security and electrical systems to ensure the tunnel is safe for pedestrians to travel through all year round.

The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to numerous recreation sites, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium as well as historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
